After three years of extensive testing, redesign, and further refinement, we at Zinn Cycles and Clydesdale Bicycles are proud to announce our revolutionary Zinn Duro fork. We have long awaited a carbon fork that is tough enough for the abuse that gravel cyclists, bikepackers and big and tall cyclists dish out. We just finished up this really cool E-bike for a musician in San Fransisco. It's a titanium custom ebike build for a 6'6" rider. This was one of the few occasions where the rider's wife convinced him to upgrade from what he was originally looking for. He came to visit us at our shop in Louisville, Colorado and test road several bikes. He was originally looking for a non electric commuter/city bike to ride around San Fransisco. He got a chance to ride an e-bike we had built up and really enjoyed it. He came back from his test ride with a huge grin on his face.
When I built myself an e-bike and started riding it, I was coming off of 35 years of racing bikes and cross-country skis. At age 55, I was still winning lots of bike races until I suddenly developed a heart arrhythmia. I struggled for a few years with finding satisfying outdoor activities that didn’t set off my heart arrhythmia, and my cycling range had become shortened to a very small radius around my house, ridden solo at a slow pace. It was repetitive and uninteresting for someone used to using the bike to have fun and get to far-flung beautiful places while feeling my body get stronger. Fortunately, I soon discovered e-bikes and the many health benefits they offer.
How Electric Bikes Work & More! When you think of an electric bike, you might be visualizing people zipping up and down roads and bike paths without pedaling. But electric bikes cover a wide array from utility e-bikes with a throttle to subtle, pedal-assisted e-bikes that are almost indistinguishable in appearance from “analog” bikes.
At Zinn Cycles, we believe in keeping up with every aspect of the cycling world ㅡ and that includes electric bikes. Ever since Lennard Zinn, our founder, was limited to short, slow rides by his heart problems, he’s been searching for a way to get back on the horse… uh, bike. Electric bikes have come a long way from those bulky roadside rentals; they now have a lot more benefits to offer.
This bike turned out really nice. It's a titanium custom ebike build for a 6'10" rider. The customer was looking for a bike for riding commuting in his home town of Geneva Switzerland as well as long adventure rides on the many gravel paths in the area. For him, flat bars were the way to go to get him the riding position he wanted.
This bike was a really cool project. Lester Binegar, CFO of our favorite local Boulder Bike shop, University bikes, came to us with the idea to build his dream e-bike. Ubikes has been a cycling institution in Boulder for ages, so it was really cool to be able to build a bike for Lester. His idea was to make an electric mountain bike that would be great for commuting, trail riding, and gravel riding and we wanted to keep it as light as we could. Under 40lbs was the request, and we knew this would be a challenge.
This year we had the pleasure of building a custom titanium ebike for a really nice woman in Georgia. She contacted us because she is retired from working at UGA, and does a lot of long supported group rides with friends. She decided she needed and ebike since many of her friends had them and she wanted to be able to keep up with them. Below is her review of the new bike after some big rides.
We recently built this custom titanium electric mountain bike for a 6'8" gentleman who has been living in Cambodia. We got the pleasure of getting to work with him and found him very interesting. He chose many years ago to move to Southeast Asia. He has developed a career in advertising and has lived in Vietnam and Cambodia. .
